Dentistry
Domestic pets suffer from periodontal disease on an epidemic scale. More than 80% of our pets greater than 2 years old exhibit halitosis (bad breath) and periodontal disease. Periodontal disease is best defined as the inflammation and destruction of the soft and hard tissues which support the teeth. Animals have evolved from a natural carnivore’s diet which had a fibrous texture and was chewed for a very long time, therefore having a self cleansing action. The dry and canned food we feed them today promotes plaque and tarter build-up. Animals cannot brush there teeth, therefore, it is the owners responsibility to provide preventative dental care. We know severe dental disease can create a chronic bacteremia and cause heart, liver and kidney disease.

Please call for an evaluation of your pets dental health and we will be happy to instruct you on homecare and our dental prophylaxsis procedures. Chatfield veterinary hospital has a full dental suite with a ultrasonic scaler, dental x-ray machine and dental unit with drills and polisher.
